Multi-award winning, and South Africa’s young director to watch this year, Ryan Kruger, was born and bred just outside of Liverpool from a South African father and English mother. His obsession with film started at the age of 14 when he acquired a JVC MovieVideo Camcorder and immediately filmed his friends and family in a series of "movies" involving themes of diamond smuggling, bank heists and comical fighting scenes. His future in film was apparent from the first time he hit the record button.
He completed high school, went on to obtain his acting diploma from The Guildhall School of Music & Drama and took on a reality project with his friends called GTV! With this project, Ryan filmed with over 50 of the world's biggest rock bands (including Killswitch Engage, Slipknot & Juliet Lewis & The Licks). Quentin Tarantino has critiqued his work and he assisted Danny Boyle on the set of "Millions"
Ryan headed to South Africa where he ultimately received a bursary to complete his honours in Directing & Writing at AFDA, where he quickly established himself as a top music video director and has, to date, directed over 40 music videos for South Africa's most prolific artists. His real passion lies with feature films however and he continues to work towards his big debut while he experiments with commercials, branded content and more music videos. Most of his music videos have a distinctive avant garde style or lend themselves to being cinematic masterpieces. Ryan is available in SA andthe UK.
