Behind the Scenes: The Golden Path
For L’Occitane en Provence’s 50th anniversary campaign, The Golden Path, the visual world was built around beauty, nature, craft and atmosphere. Shot in Cape Town, the global campaign brought together live-action filmmaking, photography and generative AI to create a contemporary expression of the brand’s heritage.
To capture the production behind the campaign, Ken Kamara was chosen for his own distinctive visual language.
Considered, gentle and atmospheric, Ken’s photography and filmmaking has a quiet quality that allows moments to unfold rather than forcing them into the frame. His use of soft lenses, muted tones and natural light creates images that feel intimate and personal - visuals that draw you in rather than simply documenting what is happening.
It was this sensitivity that made his approach particularly suited to The Golden Path. Rather than producing conventional behind-the-scenes imagery, Ken captured the ambiance of the production - the details, the people, the pauses and the atmosphere that surrounded the making of the campaign.
His work offer a glimpse behind the polished final film while retaining the same sense of beauty and calm that sits at the heart of the L’Occitane en Provence visual world.
The result is a body of work that feels less like documentation and more like another visual story unfolding alongside the campaign itself.
For L’Occitane en Provence’s The Golden Path, Ken Kamara went beyond traditional behind-the-scenes coverage with a creative social edit that reveals what happens in front of the camera and what’s happening just behind it - at the same time.
Splitting the frame between the final cinematography and Ken’s behind-the-scenes perspective, the edit offers a glimpse into how the campaign comes together, while showcasing his own considered eye for composition and atmosphere.
