Sacha Waldman Joins Artists & Legends as Digital Creative Director

Artists & Legends is pleased to announce the appointment of internationally recognised photographer Sacha Waldman as Digital Creative Director, where he will spearhead the agency’s Digital Studio. Bringing his distinctive creative vision and deep understanding of image-making to our expanding digital offering, pushing creative boundaries across AI-driven imagery, digital film and integrated campaign content for brands and agencies worldwide.

With a career spanning more than 25 years, Waldman brings an exceptional depth of experience across global advertising, music and entertainment. After establishing his career in New York, he became known for a distinctive approach to image-making that combined strong photographic craft with digital experimentation - at a time when digital manipulation was still emerging within commercial photography.

His photographic career has taken him into the worlds of music, entertainment, sport and advertising, working with some of the most recognisable names in popular culture. His subjects have included Jay-Z, David Bowie, 50 Cent, Eminem, Dr Dre, Ben Kingsley, Pharrell Williams and Samuel L Jackson, alongside international brands including adidas, Nike and Kohler.

Waldman has always approached technology as part of the creative process rather than an end in itself. His early work became known for pushing digital photography and compositing beyond conventional photographic practice, establishing him as one of the original photographers to pioneer digital art within commercial work.

Now, that experience is being brought to the next generation of advertising.

As Digital Creative Director at Artists & Legends, Waldman will lead the development of the Digital Studio, working with brands, agencies and creative teams to explore the possibilities of GenAI, moving image and digital production while bringing the creative discipline and commercial understanding of traditional advertising to this rapidly evolving space.

A Powerhouse of Global Advertising Experience

Waldman’s appointment forms part of a broader evolution at Artists & Legends, bringing together three decades of global advertising and production experience with a growing digital creative offering.

Founded by creative producer Deborah Bacher, Artists & Legends represents distinctive photographers, filmmakers and digital creatives, while providing global creative production from campaign development through to delivery.

The addition of Waldman strengthens that offering with a rare combination of international advertising experience, photographic authority, creative direction and digital innovation.

“We’re incredibly excited to have Sacha join Artists & Legends,” says Bacher. “His experience is extraordinary, but it’s his instinct to keep pushing creatively that makes this such a natural fit. He understands advertising, he understands storytelling, and he understands how technology can open up new creative possibilities. We’re looking forward to bringing that thinking to our clients and collaborators around the world.”

Waldman adds: “I’ve always been interested in where image-making is going next. Digital technology changed photography when I first started experimenting with it, and I see the same opportunity happening again now. The tools have changed, but the fundamentals haven’t - a strong idea, great creative thinking and the ability to make people feel something.”

Artists & Legends Digital Studio is open for creative collaborations, advertising campaigns and digital production worldwide.

Filmmaker + Photographer - Ken Kamara for L'Occitane en Provence

Behind the Scenes: The Golden Path

For L’Occitane en Provence’s 50th anniversary campaign, The Golden Path, the visual world was built around beauty, nature, craft and atmosphere. Shot in Cape Town, the global campaign brought together live-action filmmaking, photography and generative AI to create a contemporary expression of the brand’s heritage.

To capture the production behind the campaign, Ken Kamara was chosen for his own distinctive visual language.

Considered, gentle and atmospheric, Ken’s photography and filmmaking has a quiet quality that allows moments to unfold rather than forcing them into the frame. His use of soft lenses, muted tones and natural light creates images that feel intimate and personal - visuals that draw you in rather than simply documenting what is happening.

It was this sensitivity that made his approach particularly suited to The Golden Path. Rather than producing conventional behind-the-scenes imagery, Ken captured the ambiance of the production - the details, the people, the pauses and the atmosphere that surrounded the making of the campaign.

His work offer a glimpse behind the polished final film while retaining the same sense of beauty and calm that sits at the heart of the L’Occitane en Provence visual world.

The result is a body of work that feels less like documentation and more like another visual story unfolding alongside the campaign itself.

For L’Occitane en Provence’s The Golden Path, Ken Kamara went beyond traditional behind-the-scenes coverage with a creative social edit that reveals what happens in front of the camera and what’s happening just behind it - at the same time.

Splitting the frame between the final cinematography and Ken’s behind-the-scenes perspective, the edit offers a glimpse into how the campaign comes together, while showcasing his own considered eye for composition and atmosphere.

Introducing Fran Galac - Automotive Photographer

An Editorial Eye on Automotive

Fran Galac brings a distinctive, editorial sensibility to automotive photography, with an instinct for finding the unexpected frame.

His work moves beyond the traditional conventions of automotive imagery, exploring the relationship between cars, architecture, landscape and light. Whether photographing a car on track, in an urban environment or against a striking architectural backdrop, Fran has a natural ability to turn the environment into part of the story.

His images are considered without feeling overly constructed. He plays with perspective, composition, negative space and graphic elements to create photographs that feel contemporary, atmospheric and full of character - while keeping the car firmly at the centre of the frame.

There is also a tactile quality to Fran’s work. His distinctive editing style has helped him build a strong following among automotive enthusiasts, with his work recognised for its quirky perspectives, bold colour, graphic compositions and occasional pop-art influence. His images often play with distortion, scale and unexpected visual treatments, giving familiar automotive subjects a fresh and sometimes playful perspective.

His approach to post-production is equally considered. Rather than pursuing the ultra-clean, polished finish often associated with automotive photography, Fran embraces texture, grain and a degree of imperfection. His love of the “good old days of grain” brings a tactile, analogue quality to his digital work, while his use of colour and contrast gives the images a distinctive visual punch.

The result is photography that feels automotive, but not conventional — precise enough to celebrate the design and detail of the vehicle, while bringing an artistic edge that makes both the image and the product itself memorable.

With an established following, Fran understands what makes an automotive image stop someone in their tracks. He is now bringing that distinctive visual language to commercial photography, offering automotive brands an opportunity to communicate their products with a little more attitude, atmosphere and individuality.

Precision doesn't have to mean predictable.

Roice Nel - From Film to Photography

Roice’s stills portfolio is shaping up beautifully, with his latest campaign for Jetour showcasing his ability to move seamlessly between motion and photography.

One of Cape Town’s leading social media DOPs, Roice has built a reputation for creating work that feels considered, contemporary and highly attuned to its audience. His portfolio includes social content for Toyota Global, the main sponsor of the Tokyo Olympics, as well as marketing collateral for BBC America’s The Watch.

Roice’s ideas and creative perspective ensure that every piece has a clear visual intention and connects with its audience. His ability to blend traditional filmmaking techniques with the latest technology allows him to elevate projects, regardless of their scale.

In response to the demands of an increasingly visual and fast-moving digital landscape, Roice has expanded his skill set into photography, bringing the same instinct for movement, composition and storytelling to stills.

The Jetour campaign is a great example of this evolution - a campaign delivered across both video and stills, with Roice shaping the visual language across the two mediums.

His growing photography portfolio is another dimension to a filmmaker already fluent in the language of contemporary content.

From AI Pitch Videos to Integrated Campaign Thinking.

BUILDING CAMPAIGNS, NOT JUST VIDEOS

We’re a nimble studio that doesn’t just make films  - we think about how ideas are launched, shared, and understood across platforms.

To add value to the overall offering, we created a playful spoof and a suite of above-the-line promotional assets designed to support the concept, clarify the proposition, and help the work travel further.

This allowed the idea to live not just as a video, but as a fully formed campaign.

This work builds on the AI pitch films we created for Emma.Love, exploring how the concept could stretch into ATL and platform-native executions.

AI Pitch Videos for Emma.Love | Brand Storytelling & Visual Development

An AI Story About Love

This project explores modern relationships with warmth, humour, and honesty.

Emma.Love was born from a simple but powerful question:
What actually helps people build healthier, happier relationships?

The platform explores how humans and AI can collaborate in a thoughtful, ethical way - not as replacements for connection, but as tools that learn from us, reflect us, and ultimately support healthier relating.

THE BRIEF
Create a story about relationships - and what can go wrong - between a Hispanic woman and a North African man. Keep it light, human, and funny.

We were given what we value most: complete creative freedom.

We developed two distinct versions of the film for a test audience, allowing Emma.Love to explore what viewers found most relatable and emotionally resonant.

RELATABILITY
As AI continues to evolve, many audiences still approach it with scepticism, often missing the creative intent, nuance, and storytelling potential behind the work.

This campaign was never about showcasing AI as a novelty.
It was about using it as a creative partner - in service of shared human experience.

We’re proud of how these films gently invite audiences to laugh, reflect, and recognise themselves - all within 30 seconds.

Our work doesn’t stop there. We often explore how an idea can live beyond the initial brief - including above the line imagery and engaging content. Read how we expanded Emma.Love beyond the pitch → link

Giving Localisation a Creative Edge with AI-Driven Creative Production

In today’s global market, brands aren’t just communicating across borders - they’re telling stories across cultures, languages, and platforms. That’s where creative localisation becomes essential.

It’s easy to think of localisation as a final technical step, a simple matter of translation. But for brands delivering campaigns across multiple regions, the real challenge isn't just translation, it's transformation.

Why Creative Localisation Matters

Localisation isn’t just about swapping out copy. It’s about reshaping your message so it resonates culturally, emotionally, and visually - wherever it lands.

What works in London may fall flat in Seoul. A campaign that connects in São Paulo might need a totally different tone in Berlin. Every market has its own rhythm, nuance, and creative expectations.

That’s why we treat localisation as a creative process, not just a technical one. And now, thanks to advanced AI production tools, we can deliver that process faster, smarter, and more precisely than ever.

What We Offer: AI-Enhanced Localisation Services

We help brands adapt global campaigns with a high level of creative control.

Our localisation toolkit includes:

  • Flexible, region-specific scripts that preserve meaning while adapting tone and pacing

  • Realistic, customisable AI voiceovers with a wide range of languages and accents

  • Precise AI lip syncing, making dubbed or voice-replaced content look seamless

  • Real-time iteration and versioning, so you can test and tweak instantly

  • Faster turnaround and lower overhead, without sacrificing creative quality

This means your teams can adapt campaigns quickly and scale them confidently.

Creative Localisation That Scales

We believe localisation should empower creatives, not slow them down. By integrating AI into the process, we’re giving brands more freedom to speak to audiences in truly local terms, not just with translated words, but with tailored creative that feels native, everywhere it appears.

Whether you’re launching a global product, adapting branded content for social, or building region-specific variations for digital campaigns, we can help you move faster - and smarter.

AI Sport Commercial - Never Lose Your Way

Stepping Into the Future.

Artists & Legends is a hybrid creative agency blending traditional production with GenAI, 3D and Post Production. This AI reel is a proof of concept, demonstrating how we craft high-impact campaigns by merging longstanding production experience with today’s most forward-thinking creative technologies.

Entering the GenAI space has been nothing short of thrilling. As a team of visual storytellers, we saw an opportunity to harness this technology to expand what a creative studio can imagine, build, and deliver.

At a time when advertising teams are expected to create more visually ambitious content - on tighter timelines and leaner budgets - we offer creative solutions that make that possible. Whether it’s designing cinematic locations, solving complex production challenges, or building a diverse, global cast of characters, we do it all with agility, precision, and a focus on impact.

GenAI isn’t here to replace craft - it’s here to amplify it. When combined with experienced creative direction, production ingenuity, and strategic thinking, it becomes a creative engine that unlocks new visual languages and campaign possibilities.

This reel is just the beginning.

If you're ready to explore how a hybrid approach can work for your brand — let’s talk.

Whether we start with existing imagery or create new visuals, we build full campaign ecosystems - from hero films and teasers to stills and social edits - all tailored for cross-platform use.
